Matthew 21:12-17. JESUS CLEANSED THE TEMPLE, OVERTHREW THE TABLES OF THE MONEY CHANGERS
Two expressions of the ministry of Jesus are evident in today’s chosen scripture.
Jesus entered the temple courts and drove out all who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves.
The blind and the lame came to him at the temple, and he healed them.
But when the chief priests and the teachers of the law saw the wonderful things he did and the children shouting in the temple courts, “Hosanna to the Son of David,” they were indignant.
Jesus confronted that which is offensive to His Father, the buying and selling in the Temple. Then healings that glorified God and caused open praise of Jesus. Fulfilling what His Father had sent Him to do.
The apostle Paul asks a question, “Do you not know that your body is a Temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you received from God? You are not your own; you are bought at a price”. [1 Corinthians 6:19].
So as we consider the price Jesus paid for us, also consider, “Is there anything in us that displeases the Lord?” If yes, then this is a good time to repent and ask the Lord to cleanse this temple. Also, “Is there anything in us that gives the Lord pleasure?” If yes, then this is a good time to openly praise the Lord and so glorify God for the great gift given freely to us.
God bless you as you serve Him.
