Smith Wigglesworth (1859-1947) was a man famed for his healing ministry in the service of the God he served, whilst also being a great preacher and evangelist. A man used mightily by God who would frequently witness to the goodness of God. Drawing from his experience of a tough upbringing in a poor farming community in Yorkshire, Wigglesworth once said this:
‘Great faith is a product of great fights.
Great testimonies are the outcome of great tests.
Great triumphs can only come out of great trials.’
We live in a hard, fallen world. Life can be hard and each one of us goes through tough times where we find ourselves fighting battles on numerous fronts – whether it’s finances, justice, health or relationships to name but a few. But there is hope.
Isaiah 46 v 4 reminds us: ‘Even to your old age and grey hairs I am he, I am he who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you.’
In the midst of the battles we face, may we take heart that the Almighty One - The Great I am - who promises to carry, sustain and rescue us - is with us. God will never let go.
He is there in the midst and He is faithful. May we know that and experience His presence for ourselves but may we also hold on to Him too. May we hold firm – staying faithful to Him for as Jesus reminds us:
The one who stands firm to the end will be saved.
(Matthew 24 v 13).
