Matthew 28:1-10. THE STONE WAS ROLLED AWAY. HE IS RISEN

If the story ended with Good Friday, what a bleak story it would be. We would just be remembering the death of a good man. Cruelly punished and unfairly treated.

But why would that story transcend the centuries if there was not something a bit more remarkable about it? Plenty of 'good people' have died in history and seldom have billions across the world paused to remember and honour them continuously through the ages.

So is there something different about this story?

I believe there is...

Good Friday, a strange and sombre day with an unusual name gives way to Easter Sunday. They go together. The hope of this day is all the more meaningful because of the sorrow of that day. God is both present in unbearable sorrow and unlimited joy.

And so as the sun rises on this day, so to does an unshakeable hope. What looked lost and hopeless is now replaced with a joy thought unthinkable just 48 hours previous. The stone was rolled away. Never has something seemingly empty resulted in a more fulfilling discovery! He is risen!

It is the ultimate comeback story.  A story that has stood the test of time.  A story that means you and I can have a story too.

Happy Easter.
